Bees of the Indigo Event Sacred Space Opening Celebration: Cookout & Open Mic Fundraiser

Join us day of love, liberation, and community building at the Bees of the Indigo Event Sacred Space Cookout & Open Mic Fundraiser in Bakersfield, CA on October 28, 2023, from 3pm-9pm.

Come and enjoy some good food, wear your culturally celebrated costumes and spit your words of liberation. Get ready to groove to some oldies and new school, devour meat and plant-based food, and support a great cause. Our open mic will showcase local and nonlocal talent, so bring your guitar, poetry, drums, or any other hidden talents you want to share. Let's create a memorable day together and honor our community throughout time.

There is a grass area, please bring your own blanket. It's an open floor for everyone -- please be mindful and respect the space.

KEY NOTES:

Your support provides the community with need-based resources, sleeping bags and tents to residents in Bakersfield, CA

- Sleeping bags and tents will be distributed in November during our Community Donation Market with community activities and healing.

- Culturally Celebrated Halloween costumes are welcome, but please no cultural appropriation

- Raffle costume prize

- Virtual Participation and attendance will be available for OPEN MIC.

This is a family-friendly fundraiser with kid-friendly pumpkin painting.

Sound Bowl Grounding Meditation:

Offered by Ashlee Rivera(she/her), a Houston-based producer, sound bowl practitioner, and founder of fortune cookie business, The Fortunate Cookies! Ashlee will be grounding the community with a sound healing meditation to kick off our Open Mic!

ABOUT ASHLEE:

Ashlee Rivera, a multidisciplinary artist born in the vibrant city of Houston, Texas. Working as a sound energy practitioner since 2016, she nurtures her deep connection to her indigenous Mexican ancestry through sound. Ashlee's journey has been guided by her passion for holistic healing, self-discovery, spirituality and her mission to empower marginalized communities.

Ashlee's work extends far beyond her healing sessions as she dedicates herself to facilitating transformative women's wellness events specifically designed for women of color. 

Her events provide a sacred space for black and brown women to embrace their generational magic, fostering a sense of liberation and empowerment. In her role as a sound energy practitioner Ashlee also works at Meadows Outpatient Behavioral Health facility guiding trauma-informed patients through the transformative power of sound meditation. Incorporating sound healing into these programs helps individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and nervous system dysregulation find solace and centeredness. She is providing them with access to alternative healing modalities.
